Overtime Ideas

Expectations for all Overtime
Overtime must be HIGH QUALITY work or I will not accept it.  Any resource used in overtime must be correctly cited - a bibliography/resources page Citation Example).  I reserve the right to not accept overtime that doesn't meet the highest quality standards.  I also reserve the right to assign points on a case-by-case basis.

1.  READ a fiction novel and earn overtime points! 
Choose a novel that tells a story about people in the United States between 1700 and 1900ish.  Summarize the novel in 20 lines or more and create a Word Cloud using www.wordle.net (Click on the image below to see an example of a Word Cloud for the novel, Monstrumologist by Rick Yancey)  OR  Create a Double-Entry Journal.  Every 25 or so pages select a key event, idea, word, quote, or concept from the novel and write it in the left column of the paper.  In the right column, write write your response or connection to the item in the left column.

2.  Quizlet
Join Washington's Social Studies Class at Quizlet.  Be the student to use study the most often on the site and earn extra points!  Be a game champion and earn extra points!

3.  Write an Elected Official
Are you concerned about something in your school, community, or nation?  Let an elected official know about it - email (or write) them a letter.  Turn a copy of the letter in for credit.

4.  Analyze a Political Cartoon
In a Type 1 Writing describe what you see in the cartoon and then explain the artists message.  Attach the cartoon to you writing.

5.  Draw your own Political Cartoon
Pick an issue that you have an opinion about.  Show your opinion by drawing a cartoon.  Include USA symbols when you can!

6.  Historical Movie
After watching a historical fiction movie, write a Type 3 Writing.  FCAs:   1.  S.A.T. topic sentence, 2.  20 or more lines summary of movie 3.   proper nouns correctly capitalized

7.  Explore our National Parks
Research and write a report, make a pamphlet, make a booklet, make a poster, etc. showing what you learned about the park!

8.  Your Own Idea
Interested in something that you can connect to our social studies learning?  Create your own Overtime!  Check with Mrs. Washington before starting.
