Practice the steps of a good non-fiction reader (teacher directed)!
- Look @ the pictures, read the captions, read highlighted or bold words, read the section title and headings. Predict what reading selection is about.
- Read the paragraphs under the first heading.
- Clarify - what words/phrases do you not understand? Use resources to help answer - write personal vocab.
- Question - in your head quiz yourself over the section
- Summarize - cover the paragraphs and say to yourself the "jist" of that section
- Repeat with the next heading
