Warm-Up
Correct Conventions Please!  What's wrong with the sentences below?  Rewrite them correctly on ISN pg. 4.2.  Be prepared to share.
1.  The Revolutionary war ended with the treaty of Paris in 1783.
2.  The americans was pleased that the united states stretched from the atlantic ocean to the Mississippi river.

History Alive Textbook Chapter 8 Section 2.
Practice the steps of a good non-fiction reader (teacher directed)! 
  • Look @ the pictures, read the captions, read highlighted or bold words, read the section title and headings.  Predict what reading selection is about. 
  • Read the paragraphs under the first heading.
  • Clarify - what words/phrases do you not understand?  Use resources to help answer - write personal vocab.
  • Question -  in your head quiz yourself over the section
  • Summarize - cover the paragraphs and say to yourself the "jist" of that section
  • Repeat with the next heading
