Greetings Students!
We are going to have an amazing year together! Please RELAX because I am a competent, knowledgeable, experienced, veteran, professional teacher. To stay current in my teaching knowledge and skills I attend conferences, graduate classes, professional development meetings and do a lot of reading! You should also know that I love to teach, I enjoy teaching, and I am proud to be a teacher! You are going to have a great educational experience. We will not only study Social Studies but also, life skills needed to be successful in the future. I promise that if you see me 25 years from now you will say, "You made us work hard but I learned a lot about life and sometimes it was even fun!"
Students need either a 100-200 page 81/2 x 11 spiral bound notebook OR a 2” 3-ring binder to create their Social Studies Interactive Notebook. Please call or email me if you have questions, concerns, or need help providing a notebook or binder for your student.
Course Description
The Eighth Grade Social Studies course is designed to give students the opportunities to begin to learn and practice the skills they will need to become Michigan citizens: people who are informed, productive, responsible citizens who promote and participate in their local, state and national governments. To become this type of citizen students will study United States history, geography, economics, civics, and public discourse.
Eighth grade students continue their study of United States History from early political transformations through Reconstruction. Geographic, civics/government, and economics content is integrated within the historical context. Students will read social studies content and use content knowledge to write, speak, listen, and use language effectively. Students will also practice the skills and understandings required for college and career readiness.
