The 10% Summary T3Writing
Eighth grade students have been asked to submit clear and informative summaries for a student-oriented website called studentarticles.com.  This site posts summaries of interesting articles for upper elementary and middle school students.  Students who go to this site are like you in many ways.  They have a variety of interests but not enough time to read as many full length articles as they would like.  Your writing will be a ready-to-post summary whose length is about ten percent of the original article.   Your writing will include the most important ideas from the article, but without your opinion.

Article:  American Symbols
Focus Correction Areas (write these on your paper)
  1. S.A.T. topic sentence (10 points)
  2. Include 4 main points/examples of the article in about 80-100 words (20 points)
  3. Proper nouns correctly capitalized (10/-2 points)
This is the S.A.T. topic sentence - notice the quotes, underline, and capitalization(you may copy mine this time):

In "American Symbols" from The Mini Page Kalamazoo Gazette, B.Debnam, L.Tarry, and L.Lien

describe how our American symbols represent our ideals and show our pride for our country.
