Read "Checks and Balances" article.  Use the information to complete the graphic organizer.  Get a parent signature.

State of the Union Addreess
  1. Locate in the Constitution the rule that says that the President must give information to Congress about the plans for the U.S.
  2. Write the quote and the citation in your ISN.
  3. Watch Channel One News segment about last nights State  of the Union address.
  4. Writing Prompt:  Which of the issues presented by the president in the State of the Union is most important to you?  T1W, 8+lines, TTQA

Students scan and skim key words in primary source Constitution of the United States and secondary side notes to identify what branch has the power presented.  Individuals read, team discussion and whiteboard presentation.
  1. Problem is projected on screen and "Waldo" word is identified.
  2. Person 1 scans Article I front to back, Person 2 scans Article II, Person 3 scans Article III, Person 4 scans Article I back to front. (teacher coaches students/teams)
  3. Individuals share when answer is located, teammates read and agree or keep reading.  When team agrees on answer, write on whiteboard.
  4. Boards are presented when time is up and scored.
  5. Correct answer is reviewed and students record in 4-Door foldable.
  6. Continue steps 1-5 for each power problem presented.
